The most wonderful thing about writing fiction is that as a writer you have total power to create characters to be anything you want them to be. Writers can tailor their characters to be courageous or cowardly – or choose from a vast multitude of options in-between. Dialogue can be simple or complex and can range from being viperous in tone to being extraordinarily profound or empathetic.
I once knew a magistrate who could only be described as being fastidious in detail. It was agony doing court duty on days when he was the chair of the Bench because he would continuously stop proceedings to ask for lengthy clarification on the smallest of matters. I sat and watched him one day and out of despair decided it was time that I was got my revenge! Hence, the idea behind ‘A Blessing in Disguise’ came into being. The magistrate became ‘William’ in my story. He led a secret life but his secret was one day inadvertently exposed.
I hope you like the selection of fictional pieces I have included in this section for you. These range from a postcard sketch (watch out, Dave could knock on your door any day now!) to several short stories, such as the novelette ‘A Blessing in Disguise’, which I have already mentioned as well as a fictional case study entitled ‘The Empty Space’ which depicts something good emerging out of the main character’s misfortune.
